Once upon a time, on that small diamond shaped island, on the southern coast of England, a handful of home educating families got together and from those small beginnings in 1999, the Isle of Wight Learning Zone was formed!
The Isle of Wight Learning Zone is a network of Home Educating Families, mostly based on the Isle of Wight, who have come together to share experiences, and to help each other through the minefield and joys that home educating can bring!Today the IWLZ has upwards of 50 member families most of whom organise and participate in a diverse range of activities to enrich their family's educational experiences.
We welcome members from all walks of life, and all ages and stages, whether you are lifelong home educators, or, are coming at home ed as a whole new concept because school just isn't catering for your child's individual needs.
You can find out more about who we are and how we got started by checking out the about us page.
On our contact page you will find details of who to ask for more information regarding the IWLZ and whether it might be just the group you have been looking for.
We have included a page full of information about Home education - yes, it is legal, and how you can go about it etc.
There are two links pages, one for national HE groups and educational/information sites which you might find of interest, and another to showcase those Zone families who run their own businesses.
And finally, our local pages offer information about attractions and events around the Island which may be of interest to your children, where we know that HE families may be entitled to entry fee discounts we will let you know. If you have any suggestions for other places we have not yet included on this page please do let us know.
